I never understood the reasoning behind having separate bathrooms for men and women, and actually got into trouble a couple of times when I was a child (not with my parents, but other adults were less open-minded for comparing it to racial segregation. Turns out, I was right: it's an outdated separation which causes more trouble than it's worth and creates an incorrect idea about how men and women (and people of other sexes, genders, genital composition, etc behave in front of each other.

Another thing I've noticed that people might want to to watch for is a defeatist attitude towards positive relationships. People I've met tend to write themselves off, thinking they will either ruin the relationship eventually or that they are being naive in their optimism. This might lead to them not pursuing the relationship, distancing themselves before it has a chance to sour, or reliving their trauma if it isn't going well.
